March 27, 2011:
  • With a Herculean effort, Robert Ginalski has completely refurbished and updated the "Alphabetical" databases (see under "Recordings," A-K and L-Z). Robert added ALL the recordings which were missing from the old Alphabetical section. Previously, we had utilized Christian Johansson's databases (from the previous incarnation of this website), but these didn't display properly because they were incompatible with the website-building program we use.
  • My deep thanks to Mathias D of Germany, who located the recording of the second half of a Horowitz recital (May 24, 1986 in Berlin) which was previously thought not to have been recorded at all, by DG or members of the audience. I have added entries in both the Concertography and Recordings sections.
  • My thanks to Robert MacAlear for submitting the program of February 6, 1948.

January 12, 2011:
  • Announcement: on Friday, January 28 (only), the "Original Jackets Collection" Box Set (70 CD's) will be available at a significant discount and with free shipping from SONY's Pop Market website (www.popmarket.com).
  • Making such purchases is the only way to encourage SONY to issue unreleased Horowitz material.

January 6, 2011:
  • I added the following concerts to the Concertography: October 19, 1951 (London), March 14, 1976 (Boston), March 18, 1979 (Atlanta), and June 1, 1986 (London). Information was compiled from the reviews, which were accessed using microfilm.

December 6, 2010:
  • All Horowitz's concerts noted in the Los Angeles Times have now been added to the Concertography. The new additions include: 12/28/29, 2/20/31, 12/7/39, 2/18/41, 12/2/41, 11/16/45, 12/9/47, 12/7/48, 9/29/49, 11/26/50, 12/9/52, and 2/19/78. There is also a note about the canceled concerts in February of 1979.
  • The "ongoing research" section has been updated accordingly.

December 2, 2010:
  • I waded through the entire newspaper archives of both the Washington Post and Los Angeles Times and retrieved each and every Horowitz item. I encountered a substantial number of concerts which had not been added to the concertography. The Post yielded six new concerts, and the Times revealed no less than fourteen.
  • The six new concerts in Washington DC have already been added. They are: January 28, 1928 (at the Mayflower Hotel), November 19, 1928, November 4, 1929 (both at Poli's Theater), February 2, 1932, March 18, 1947, and November 30, 1975 (all at Constitution Hall).
  • The previously unknown 1928 concert at the Mayflower is especially significant in that it marks what is undoubtledly the first concert Horowitz played in the United States.
  • I have not yet finished cataloging the fourteen Los Angeles concerts, but I hope to add them all by tomorrow evening.

November 17, 2010:
  • There has been a major addition to the concertography: Max Massei has found many new concerts between the years 1968 and 1982. Pre-eminent collectors such as Joe Patrych often voice their belief that every Horowitz concert between 1965 and 1987 was recorded, be it officially or from the audience. Max's new additions will put Joe's assertion to the test.
  • Rather than merely adding all the new entries to the concertography (without programs), I have also created a new section called "Ongoing Research," under the "Concertography and Information" tab. I call on all Horowitz enthusiasts to help find the recordings and if nothing else the reviews of all these new concerts.
